Supreme Court of Florida Family Mediator, a Certified Marital Mediator, and a Co-Parenting

Laura Alfonso, Ph.D., is a licensed clinical psychologist based in Miami, Florida, specializing in child, adolescent, family and women. She completed her PhD and her postdoctoral fellowship in Clinical Psychology following training at University of Pennsylvania, Texas A&M University, University of New Mexico Health Science Center, and Long Island Jewish Medical Center.
Dr. Alfonso has extensive experience spanning various academic and clinical roles. Clinically, Dr. Alfonso has worked within outpatient, inpatient, day treatment, residential, hospital and prison settings. As a professor, Dr. Alfonso taught doctoral-level courses in child and adult intelligence and personality assessment (both subjective and objective), child and adolescent psychopathology and treatment. Dr. Alfonso also supervised the clinical work of doctoral students and served as Chief Psychologist at the university clinic. Her academic research focused on the parent-child attachment relationships and interventions with at-risk youth, resulting in numerous conference presentations and publications. Dr. Alfonso also received a grant for a quarter of a million dollars serving at-risk children and families within her local community of Miami.
Dr. Alfonso opened her private practice in Coral Gables, Florida, in 2004, offering individual and family therapy to children, adolescents, families and women. Dr. Alfonso closed her private practice to dedicate her time to raising her three children and has recently returned to private practice. Armed with experience to supplement her extensive academic training, Dr. Alfonso now focuses on new moms, parenting, and women at different stages of their lives.
